Is there something more to this story? It seems to be a pretty popular place. Is there justification in closing down the cave?

I have read several versions of the story, and the only thing that I concluded was that due to the fact that they could not recover the victim, they were left with the sensitive issue of how to deal with public access to what is now essentially a tomb.
