I'm planning on finishing a thru hike of the JMT this August. I have a flight back home out of Reno which is requiring me to take the AM bus from Lone Pine. I am on a tight budget and am wondering what my options are for a place to stay close to the bus stop. I have read about the Dow and the Whitney Portal Hostel, but is there anywhere I can tent camp and still be within reasonable walking distance to catch the bus?

Well, the Hostel is only $20 for a bed in a shared room. and you get a shower in the room. $5 at the hostel for only a shower.

There is a local park in Lone Pine, but camping is likely not permitted. However, I'd guess you could probably get away with it in a far corner. It is Lone Pine Park, right next to the Carl's Jr.

Check Versatile Fred's Lone Pine Layout in the Orientation Notes.
