wagga,
I should say "that type of event" rather than a "specific event". That should clarify the geology/sociology confusion.

The lyrics posted are only vaguely applicable, it is the title of the song that is relevant. (although, the mariana reference definitely ties in to the overall theme).

AH! You were studying city planning! Ancient zoning restrictions, as taught by Professor Ray Kinsella.

No rules on this thread, however, the NY Times has a good discussion, and the Mail Online is a rotten news source, but does have good pictures.

What In The World Happened Here? XIX:

You thought I'd run out of events, huh?

I think a cruise ship sank in that fjord.

Lynn-a-Roo: This might have happened before cruise ships became popular. Or before you were born.

This was a still shot from an aircraft, no 16mm Bolex was involved. It did happen in the summer, although it was short and nasty.

7958 is the winning Bingo number!

Not a helpful clue -we already know it looks like Alaska, Canada, Greenland, or some other high latitude. Lots of candidates.

Bruce Brown? Endless Summer?

7958?

I still don't get it.

Look at the "ring around the tub". And it's not Japan.

I don't think it was the one that Harvey thinks it is. Nor caused by the same exact thing....yes, some rock n roll but from above not below.

Wagga,
various heights are mentioned....but at the highest point it would have been 1720'.
