Not sure if they grow them that big at Whitney (with the exception of the Hatchery.) But, Tim Alpers has been planting the Alper Trout for "Adopt a Creek" for at least the last 18 years. My son Cy caught a 6 3/4 pounder out of North Fork Bishop Creek a few years back and we've caught several over 2 pounds, up to 4 pounds out of North Lake.
And, in case people don't know, the canals outside of Bishop hold large Brown Trout. The biggest we've caught out of the canals is 3/4 pound, but it was 18 inches long!!! And the canals are also full of very large Crawdads, I call them CrawdZillas. I was hoping Gary and his wife would catch some of those for some yummy Southern Gumbo. Below is a pic of my son Cy with one of those creatures! If you go to the previous pic, you'll see a pretty good size trout.
