I have read the article and I can say that it was one of the proof that national parks have been having a dangerous year and I think these past years could be included. Yosemite National Park, however, has experienced a far higher than usual number of individuals killed. I read this here: Deadly year in national parks as Yosemite claims 14 lives. Check this out for more information.

maybe just more people there. Been pretty there with all the water, also turning things slippery

For comparison, in an average year, 50+ people die on Mont Blanc alone (no quota on that mountain). Nature is dangerous. You send more people there, more will die there.
