I'm planning WAY in advance a rim to rim hike.

I've learned there is a small parking lot (20 to 25 vehicles) at the North Kaibab Trail trailhead (I was told it was actualy about 1/4 mile away).

If the above is not accurate, please advise.

But my main question -- does anyone know if there are any posted parking restrictions at this parking lot? Particularly with regard to overnight or long term parking?

North Kaibab Trail

"Hikers on a rim-to-rim hike and who have only one vehicle often use the private Trans-Canyon Shuttle..."

This information is on the NPS website. On planning my Scouts trip the Grand Canyon I found this site to be a huge resource!!

Thank you, Chris -- but the document does not indicate whether or not there are any parking restriction signs. (Although the document will help in other ways.)

I will be hiking a day hike from the north rim to the south rim, with my vehicle remaining on the north rim. I will be taking the shuttle back to the north rim the next day.

I was originally planning to take the shuttle the Grand Canyon Lodge offers at 5:45 AM to the North Kaibab trailhead to begin my hike, and leaving my vehicle parked on hotel grounds. However, I now think I want to start my hike earlier. Therefore, to avoid a 1 1/2 to 2 mile walk to the trailhead (and conserve energy for the 24 miles rim to rim), I wonder if I can park my vehicle at the trailhead parking lot from the morning of one day until early evening the next (when the rim to rim shuttle arrives) -- thus my original question, are there any signs at that north rim parking lot indicating overnight or otherwise parking restrictions?

Anyone know?

I did this hike earlier this year. You will have fun. Our group dropped off our car on the South Rim and did the shuttle over to the North Rim. To start our hike,we got dropped off by the Lodge shuttle. I don't remember any signs saying no overnight parking, but since we were not having to park there, I could have missed it.

I have a friend that went rim to rim to rim the same day as our hike and I will send him an e-mail to see if he knows. If he doesn't, he is going back on Oct. 8th for another r2r2r (crazy) I will ask him to check it out if that is soon enough for you.

Whitney Fan,

I have confirmed that there is a large parking lot at the trail head on the North Rim and you can overnight park there.

Have Fun
