Myself and my hiking buddy are planning to hike Mt.Whitney on 7/31 or 8/7. We don't have permits and are planning to be at the agency by 11:00AM the day before for the walk-in lottery. But if anyone has 2 permits you are not using please send me a PM.

Thanks in advance.

I have two permits for day hike on July 19th. I live in Denver and many months ago had planned on hiking Mt. Whitney for my birthday. Friends have backed out and I am looking for a partner for safety reasons.

Will do it by myself but because it is a day hike only I want to start around 2 or 3am. Does anyone know if there will there be others starting that early that I can hook up with?

I am starting at 1:00 AM at Whitney Portal for a day hike. I have my two teen age sons and another possible adult. I figure the more time we have, the better!

I'm not going the 19th...sorry...going the 17th! Guess I was excited and forgot I was going to go up this Sunday!

Camping at Whitney Portal with a group of 12. 10 of us have permits for August 9, plan to be on the trail just after midnight. Practice hike at Cottonwood on 8/7. 7 of us are first timers, but we've been training hard as a group for the past few months.

I have two 1 day permits available for july 28th. Will sell for cost, had two friends back out. Can meet in lone pine or portal. Leaving for beginning of backpacking trip tomorrow morning so response must be quick smile . Hopefully I can get someone to use them. Email me asap if you would like them.

Edit: These will be turned back into the office for someone else to use hopefully.

Permits are non-transferable, for cost or for free. Turning the unused spaces in to the permit office is the way to handle this.

Emailing this to candronaco:

Candronaco,

Thanks for trying to help people get a permit for Mt Whitney. Unfortunately, Inyo N.F. doesn't allow sale or transfer of the permits. The best way to help people get your permits is to release them back to the wilderness permit office. So...

Please call the Inyo National Forest Permit Office at 760-873-2483 between 8 am and 4:30 pm to release them.

That will make them available to anyone calling in and asking for them.

Regards,
Steve C

Understood I apologize for my ignorance on the subject. That is what I will do. Hopefully someone gets to use them smile

Edit: Just released them.

Hello,

I just want to let everyone know I will be releasing 2 permits for a day hike Sunday August 7th. ( Have to move this weekend, couldn't have imagined having to move this weekend back in February). Good luck to whomever gets the permits.

A trip up the MR is possible on October 7th, weather permitting. It's not my goal though. Russell is the object, but we'll see how I do.

Wifey-pooh and I going this Labor Day.

No reservations.

Yeah, I know, but that's the way we do things.

You never know what can happen.

But, hey, there is more to do up there.

Going to take plenty of pictures for the WHA presentation on 01-18-12 and 01-23-12

4 People, MR, Sep 30 - Oct 2

My first time doing it this time of year.. according to NOAA historical data for Crabtree Meadow -- which is at 10,700' (the closest thing I could find to historical temps for UBSL), air temps look to be in the 15-30F range during this timeframe. I'm a long time skier (Colorado, Switzerland, Austria), and have done MR in June (when iceberg, chute, and last 400' were snow covered) but I'd love to hear thoughts on gear and clothing choices from those that have done MR during this time of year.
