(Ken posted this on the wpsmb.)

Amy and Myles, Doug's cooks at the Whitney Portal Store, posted a report of their technical climb up Day (Crooks) Needle on Supertopo.

Here's the link: New Route on Day Needle by Amy Ness

Amazing! And great pictures.

Thanks Amy, for showing the folks what a real climb looks like on Mt. Whitney. No day hike this! Good luck on a future 5.11 attempt.

A few weeks ago when we were out there Myles was telling me about a 5.8 or 5.9 route he put up on the face directly behind the store. Later that day I was complimenting him on the route after having a chance to take a look. Amy was within hearing distance and she said, "The cool route that who put up?! Wouldn't that be Amy's route?!"

People should know that Amy and Myles play an integral role in helping people who are caught in bad situations on Mt Whitney. On top of that, they're a really good looking couple (especially Amy)....and she knows her beer! Both are very helpful and friendly when you go up there and visit.

Both Amy and Myles get our thanks for what you do to not only make our visits to Mt Whitney much more pleasurable, but safer also.
