Hi there, new to the forums. Day-Hiked Whitney for the second time this August and had a fantastic time with great weather.

I'm planning an overnight this coming weekend with some friends on Langley and it's my first time on that one. I know the Sierra's got some good snow last week and I've been reading all the trip reports, viewing the photos, and watching the weather. So far looks like next weekend will still work out.

Any idea what the snow accumulation and melt is looking like right now? Do crampon's seem to be required to summit? Also, anybody been out on Langley?

Thanks!

Based on what I've seen on Whitney yesterday, I'd expect that both passes will be covered with snow, and the entire plateau leading from the passes up to Langley will be covered with 1' to 2' of snow.

I'd bring full snow gear and head for Old Army Pass. It should be the only section where you really need crampons.

We are going on the 13 and 14. I've seen some pictures up to Trail Crest. Have you made it to the top? How deep is the snow?
Last time we attempted it last year it was chest deep in some places...
