Me and a couple of friends reached the summit of Mount Langley this morning via Army Pass. We hiked in to the Cottonwood Lakes yesterday (10/16) and camped overnight. We went for the summit this morning (10/17). Based on images I've seen over the past week there has been, and continues to be, substantial melt happening from the storm that rolled through a couple weeks ago. Even with the melt that has occurred you will hike through a small bit of snow to Army Pass. We had (and I would recommend) crampons and trekking poles for Army Pass. It's still knee deep in snow that was hard in the morning and quite soft by the early afternoon. From the top of the pass to the summit it's easy going though and shouldn't be a problem for anyone.

Hopefully people are seeing similar conditions on Whitney too. The weather was absolutely gorgeous and it looks like it's going to hold for another week at least. Hopefully you can get out there for some late season fun still. smile
