Last summer I summited Mt. Whitney from New Army Pass/Cottonwood Lakes. This winter I want to go back to that area to do some snowshoeing, however, I don't live anywhere near there and I'm wondering if anyone can tell me how to check on current snow conditions for the Cottonwood Lakes trails?

The road is not plowed and usually closed by now...gated closed if I'm not mistaken, unlike the sieve-like closure of Whitney Portal Road.

Wow, thanks for that info. Any suggestions for good snowshoeing out of Lone Pine area?

Both the MMWT and Meysan Lake Trail are fun. We've gotten to Trail Camp more than a few times and to about 10,000' on the Meysan Lake Trail.

Just don't follow the trail from Trailside Meadow. That section is really dangerous when there is snow around. Just keep going straight it will put back on the trail at Consultation Lake.
