Members! 95 forum members - almost to that magic triple-digit of 100! Was it just 3 months ago that we were watching the Zone forum membership painfully creep to 40? Lotta new members in the past 4-6 weeks. I told Steve a while back that he would probably see a spike in traffic at the first of the year and continuing through spring as folks search for Whitney information resources for that summer climb/hike (i.e., all that wonderful stuff Versatile Fred prepared) - and find them here and not elsewhere.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...I knew that! crazy

Yes, Versatile Fred's work is invaluable. It was his notes that helped me prepare a few years back.

With the lottery upon us and another hiking season just a few months away, TRs and pictures will provide more information.

My wife and I have decided not to do the lottery this year. We were blessed enough to have been married on Bastille Day 2007 near Whitney Portal Falls by none other than the "Everest Man" Kurt Wedberg of Sierra Mountaineering International and then hike up to Lone Pine Lake and then to finish our hiking day with a fantastic steak dinner at Seasons. We celebrated our first anniversary in 2008 by hiking to the summit with our good friend BruinDave. "Mecca West" holds a very special place in our hearts ("We were up there!"). But it won't stop us from visiting the area and taking a chance that a permit is available.

If no permit, then we can just take a leisurely stroll up to the Whitney Zone.

If we can secure a permit, we want to do the "tourist" thing and see things we normally don't see at "zero-dark-thirty" or on our return because "we want to get off this trail" for fries and a beer!

Maybe offer encouragement (or discourage) other hikers or offer assistance for those who are affected by AMS.

Maybe next year, we will put in our bid. In the meantime, there are just too many mountains to...

Have fun.

Very cool - how'd you manage that?

I enrolled in a snow traversing class by SMI. I read that Kurt was an ordained minister. I asked him and he obliged provided I bring him some groceries from Trader Joes.

Got our marriage license on Friday the 13th at the Inyo Co. courthouse and married the next day at 10:00 a.m.

Stayed at the Dow Villa in Room 50 (very nice I might say). Perfect place for the "threshold" thing.

Sweet!! A good accomplishment, Steve. Thanks for allowing me/us to be a part of this.

First hundred! Hoping it is only the beginning.

And it ain't MY accomplishment. This is a non-profit association, and every member is helping with the support.

Kinda like if Drew Brees said, "The Super Bowl win ain't MY accomplishment". True, but he had a hand in it... wink

I'll drink to that!

This is a dynamic & respectful group.

Just a matter of time 'til we get a million hits.

And I really like it that Steve C hasn't had to PTWO anybody.

I'd tell you, but then I'd have to send you down a sixty degree ice slope with an ice axe & no training.

I'll be interested to see what happens:

When I sub'd for Kurt for the Whitney talk Pt 1, I included very prominently, twice, this web address as the place to find background info (and WPS as the place for discussion), and wondered if this would translate into traffic.

I'll be giving Kurt's Part 2 in Oceanside and Solana Beach in April, and will do the same. I'd like to think that it motivates people to take a look.
