I know, I know, be careful for what you wish, but this is stinkin' ree-dunkulous. Although it did make for a nice hoof up the roads in the Whites this afternoon.

Beautiful pictures. You aren't the only one tapping fingers. I bought some new snow shoes when I saw the first storm last October. I thought, "sweet", another high snow year. Oy vey.

Actually, I have to take the contrarian view here and say I'm pleased with the low snow year. If it holds through the rest of winter, it will make my mid-August JMT thru-hike much simpler (no snow of any consequence to navigate).

By the way, I love your dramatic sky pics here. It's one of the things I remember fondly from my years living in California, esp in the high desert "over the hill" from L.A.

There actually has been a part of me that wanted the weather to keep going as it has been because the ice climbing/skating has been so good! In fact, the latest installment of Dirtbag Diaries from Patagonia features my friend John Dittli talking about the high country ice skating this year.

Something to consider for the summer hikes, however: many, many more of the creeks and rivers we take for granted may well be dried up if we don't start getting some snowpack. Could make the time between water stops much longer or more difficult.

I have to agree. I'm looking forward to an early end to mosquitoes. And if I am lucky an early start.

Good point.
Agree with Rogue re: the mosquitoes, too.
