"The slide occurred at 11:30 p.m. Sunday on Big Oak Flat Road, also known as Highway 120, after two days of heavy rain and snow, said park spokesman Scott Gediman. An enormous boulder broke loose and crashed down over the roadway about 1,000 feet north of the valley floor, taking out some of the pavement as it bounced past, Gediman said."

Location is not far up 120 from the Valley floor, near several popular climbing routes.

After Tioga Pass opens in the Spring, the eastside, including Tuolumne Meadows will be accessible from the West via the Hogdon Meadows entrance station...if 120 coming up from the Valley is still closed.

That stretch of Highway 120 will be closed again.



"Starting at 8 a.m. Feb. 29, California Highway 120, also known as Big Oak Flat Road, will be closed to traffic between the Foresta Road junction and El Portal Road (California Highway 140) junction. The closure is expected to last until early April, officials said in a news release."

"Crews will be working seven days a week, 20 hours a day, to speed repairs, with the goal of reopening the highway before Yosemite's busy spring and summer seasons. "
