Looking for suggestions on tent peg for use at Trail Camp and vicinity environment. Will a MSR ground hog/standard peg work for guyline security in the winds? June, July and fall use. I can't tell from photos/videos what would work.

There are a few areas scattered around TC where you can stake, but it tends to be loose and sandy - not very stable in wind. More likely you'll wind up anchoring your tent lines with rocks. No shortage of rock. Be sure to take some extra line.

'Rock Pegs' was what I suspected; and good to hear there is a good selection. Thanks

I'd also suggest that no matter how well you THINK you've done staking the tent down, that you get a couple of the biggest rocks you can carry and put them INSIDE the tent to keep it from blowing away while you're not inside the tent.

I'll never forget spending my first night in the Whitney Zone at Outpost Camp and spending the night listening to the roar of the wind in the trees as it started up the canyon and it slamming into camp blowing my tent completely down onto the top of my body. That eventually shattered the fiberglass poles.

My next tent was selected specifically with Trail Camp in mind. It had to be self supporting and not need stakes to setup, only to hold it down.

I heard during that trip that someone up at Trail Camp got a ticket for their tents that got blown away. Littering?

There are a few spots at Trail Camp with good wind breaker rock walls built around them. I imagine that they go quick so it might be good to get up there early for the best selection.

Yeah- i just got a free standing tent specifically for Whitney; and use 'rock pegs' with regular stakes- after a windy & rainy night in Grand Canyon. Here the wind comes down the canyon from the rim at night... Tarp Tent stayed up, and was the only one to be dry the next morning. Thanks
