As a bonus, here's me in several different looks: want to make sure there's no question as to my ID. I can't imagine me not fitting one of the described scenarios below while I'm "lol-permit"ing.

On a serious note, I understand why the permit system is there. However, after a couple no-shows on permits in the dropbox, the difficult bizarre permit system for certain areas, etc etc...combined with the fact that, most likely, the old dogs who have been doing this forever don't always bother with permits (just a guess), I find myself rolling the dice more often than not. I'd equate it to the newbies filtering water in the Sierras, and I'd bet several Canadian Loonies that the same folks crapping in bags and leaving them behind made sure they had their permit first.

You ladies are cracking me up. I'm definitely not one to whine - so worry not. Side note: you do realize that I'm becoming your color-coded-partner-in-crime, MT. I'm slowly turning into a red blob. I'm on a mission.
Wagga, thanks for the info, but Bieber Fever is actually my Euphemism for herpes.
Also - I feel like I should have included a picture of me with a mustache without other people around, in case that's how the rangers find me. Covering all the bases.
Hmmmmm...... maybe I'm the only one who ran into the Ranger the first time I went up last year..... Burchey, maybe an old permit with dog bites and drool on it would work. p.s. I didn't see an angle of you while you were throwing boulders :-) Now those were awesome. p.s. 2.... I'll be up there two or three times this year. If you're there, I owe you a beer. Laura's getting the Glenfiddich :-)

Here you go Quillian - walk down UBSL memory lane:
How did this become a picureshowandtell? Whiskey or beer sounds nice, but not on the summit. I've had bad luck with that.
To bring it back to the permit subject: let's suppose I'm leading a friend or two up the MR this summer, and they don't have permits yet for overnights in the North Fork. Odds of getting walk-in same-day early mornin permits on a weekend? Not that good I'd guess? So many question marks?
If you are as tall as you claim, then it wouldn't have anything to do with your attitude.
It simply makes you a droll troll.
Laura darlin, I hope that I haven't actually offended you by my claims of height, color, and rampant disregard for the permit system.
I am no troll (although droll could be argued). I submit, even if I have offended you in some way, that in person I could sway your opinion with my pasty deltoids. They are glorious. We'll have to set that up. Perhaps, through debate, you could win me over on the whole permit issue. I think that may have been what turned you off in the first place. Either that, or the mustache.
Also, with those Grivels, I'll be removing the red accordion things, and wrapping the whole handle with mastic tape so there won't be any red showing. I hope that helps.
I've decided that for my first trip up the MR that I want Laura and Burchey to be my co-guides.
Yeah, boy; I wanna be on that hike, too! That would be, er, interesting ... well, heck, highly entertaining, yes.
I just now read this entire exchange for the first time top-to-bottom. LMAO!! You two are cut out of the same bull-moose, feisty (note spelling), stubborn, fun-loving, independent, mountain-loving, last-word cloth, even if neither of you think you are.

One difference - only one of us admits they don't always get a permit.
Side note: while I was at lunch, I thought about this thread the whole time.
Other side note: some Madrock wire-biners just arrived in the mail (thanks REI dividend). You guessed it. RED
On a serious note, I'm sure Laura and I would have a blast together on a climb. To be fair, I'm only fake-hitting on her (and of course she's fake-turning me down, right? RIGHT!?!?) - my actual girlfriend would remove my eyeballs and punt them.
