My wife and I are planning to hike Evolution Valley (North/South Lake) the first or second week of September this summer. Some books and webpages mention a shuttle service in Bishop. I looked online and found High Sierra Shuttle but it did not have any information about days/times of their routes. Do they have set routes and times or do you have to make reservations for the specific trip?

Any advice for this trip? It is a little over 50 miles, so I'm planning on 6 or 7 days. Another option would be Silver Divide Loop. It has fewer miles, but several options for exploring.

You could also contact Ruby Allen at Rainbow Pack Outfitters out of South Lake.

Take a closer look at the logistics for this one. The hike is 50+ miles but the distance between North and South Lakes is pretty close - just a few miles. My wife and I are doing the same hike in mid-July. We're going to drop my truck at North Lake and hitchhike over to the Bishop Pass trailhead at South Lake.

We were thinking of the same thing, but wanted to see if there were other options. How many days are you going to take?

We're flexible, thinking 5 days on the trail, maybe 6 with some fishing and soaking at Blaney Meadows Hot Springs. One day to pick up permits, drop off the truck, and an acclimating hike. A little uncertainty about catching a ride from North Lake to South Lake after leaving the truck, but we'll have time to burn.

So are you starting at South Lake, then finish at North Lake? Is there an advantage to the different trailheads? I hiked Bishop Pass last fall and it was pretty mellow until you reached the actually pass. I'm not sure it would make a difference, probably depend on what permits are available for the trailheads.
