What's a good way to fasten my collapsible treking poles to my back pack.I'll be at Zion this week and at Half Dome in September.

If your pack has small pockets on either side near the waistband, put them upside down (handles first). Then, if you have cinch straps up higher, lengthen them so that they can wrap around the poles at least once.

Otherwise - use small bungies. Attach them upside down, making sure a bungie passes thru the straps to prevent them from slipping too far down.

NiteIze is now making different sized rubberized twist ties that work for fastening things to packs pretty darn well.

My best recommendation, however, would be to buy yourself a good Osprey pack, and it will have a trekking pole fastening system already intact.
