On Thursday, June 14, my family and I are heading our of Cottonwood Lakes, up New Army Pass to Langley. Has anyone gone up this past week? I'm wondering about the snow conditions and temps?

Can't find it now, but I have seen several reports that the area is free of any snow obstacles. Have a great trip!

A group went up yesterday, via "old" Army Pass. This picture shows why New Army Pass is the official trail now. This is just below the top of the pass, on a north-facing slope, and the snow is a wind-blown precipice-like mass that blows off the summit and collects. This Army Pass section of trail is no longer maintained.

The picture comes from a Facebook collection referenced on a meetup page here:  Mount Langley Day Hike

This spot is the roughest part of that hike using the old trail. The New Army Pass trail climbs approx 300' more elevation and then drops back down, but it is free of snow since it is south-facing. Here is a Gmap4 map of the area. Mt Langley is about 2 miles north of New Army Pass.

Nathan posted a set of pictures of their hike here:  198 photos of this Meetup
He also reported, "A ranger told a member of our group prior to the hike that New Army Pass is open and clear."

I'd bring some gear and take Old Army any day. The views are much better.
