My group has a day permit for Wednesday the 20th and we are going to be driving up tomorrow and staying at Horseshoe Meadows through Monday. I looked online and saw that cottonwood creek and cottonwood lakes don't open to fishing until July 1st.

Are there any lakes or streams we can dayhike to from Horseshoe Meadows that aren't included in the cottonwood creek drainage and have trout? Looking at the map, the only lake that looks like it doesn't drain into cottonwood creek is chicken spring lake.

I've never seen anyone pull a fish out of Chicken Spring Lake but not from lack of trying. I think I've read where the lake is without fish.
