Before hiking Mount Whitney we hope to hike Mount Olancha. Does anyone know if water will be available along the way? Some springs appear on the maps but its been a dry year.
Thanks,
Marty

There is plenty of water at Summit Meadow, on the West side of Olancha Pass. But access to the creek at the bottom of the approach canyon can be difficult, if not hazardous, as you can see from the topo. Take plenty of water from the start, and leave very early in the morning; it will be hot later in the day. There is another stream crossing just below the pass, on the East side, but it is often dry.

Thanks Bob!
We're also hiking Wildrose and Telescope so it looks like we'll be carrying lots of water.

You're welcome. At Wildrose camp, watch out for the burros! They tend to wander around at night through the area. We had to sleep on the picnic tables one night, to avoid being walked over (or worse) by the hee-haa's.
