Hey all, I just day hiked Whitney on Saturday and I was wondering what age the youngest person to successfully summit on a day hike is?

Last summer there was a 7-year-old boy from Orange County. Maybe someone can find the link.

This was an overnight, but the kid is 7 (I think) Mt. Whitney Main Trail trip report 6/9-6/11

And this: 1955 Record: 10-year-old Girl Dayhikes Whitney

Edit: Here it is, from the Orange County Register: Tyler Armstrong of Yorba Linda.

And this year, that kid climbed Kilimanjaro!

Hi Nick

I think your day hike to the summit of Mt. Whitney at age 15 is very impressive. I don't know many guys your age that would even consider summiting MW let alone actually do it. You should feel quite proud of your summit. I would bet that when you tell others you have been to the summit of MW they are impressed too. Good job! Keep up your hiking so you can stay healthy and help bring awareness to why everyone needs to help preserve our forests...wilderness...National Parks..... natural resources and wildlife. Adults are passing the baton to you. Thanks for sharing your TR.

Thank you very much! Yes, you're definitely right about that because not many people my age share my enjoyment of hiking and the outdoors. But its certainly something I will carry throughout my life. Thanks!
