I plan on spending a day or two at Horseshoe Meadows in order to acclimatize. What kind of reception, if any do you get with ATT and Verizon up there? If I need to work while I'm there, it would be useful to know how connected I can be.

I saw folks succeeding with telephone calls last week in the parking lot using AT&T. I didn't try telephone calls, and my phone didn't show service the only time I looked (AT&T also), but I sent an email (when I did not appear to have service) and it did go through within a few minutes from when I sent it.

So, viz AT&T, I would say sporadic voice service, with emails/texts going through, if not instantly, then quickly.

If you drive East around the ridge so that Lone Pine is in sight, I bet you can get more reliable service....

I was just there last week. With AT&T service ended on the horseshoe meadows rd at the top of the ridge. Service was good there. I suppose you could work from a pullout within view of the Owens Valley. We had 0 service around the parking lots and trails.

Brent - I've hiked out of Horseshoe Meadows dozens of times, and used to have AT&T and now Verizon. The last reliable spot seems to be the turn where the hang gliders jump off. Beyond that, it would be rare to get a signal. Even if you're in line of sight with the Owens Valley higher up, don't depend upon a connection - for most cell phones it's simply too far away.

I have ATT and once you lose sight of 395/lone pine you lose service.
