SEKI has posted a news release today:

Quote:
Apr. 4, 2013   Report Now Available with Feedback from the General Public, Organizations, and Agencies on Preliminary Draft Alternatives for the Wilderness Stewardship Plan at Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks

The full text of the release is here.

From the release:
"Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks received a total of 201 pieces of correspondence during the scoping period."

Going to the "Wilderness Stewardship Plan" page, you can find the Document List link. In the Document List is the
"Preliminary Draft Alternatives - Full Text of Public Comments and Comment Summary Report - April 2013"

I found my comments there.

Steve, every link takes me to the NPS homepage or an error page. The search engine on their home page does nothing. Hopefully this is a temporary glitch, but I noticed the same thing when trying to download Merced River Plan docs for Yosemite - except it all went to their NEPA page.

My second thought is they're making this information hard to get to reduce public comment. I hope that's not the case, but they don't seem to value public input anyway.

SEKI links seem to be working now.

Read through most of the comments. Many are well thought out, others are incoherent spittle. I'm not sure how these might influence final alternatives. I'm hopeful that getting slammed on their incoherent zone system is enough to get them to change. Same with any attempts at quota beyond controlling totals from trailheads and group size when traveling cross country.

Of course, my main concern is stock impacts on meadows and I was happy to see thoughtful comments there.

My favorite:
Quote:
Beautiful mountain meadows. Clean running streams. Great views. All contaminated with horse shit, flies, & dangerously torn up trails.

Has almost a Haiku quality about it... .

Steve, of course, was coherent (Correspondence ID 84). Mine is #148 and another NPS person I greatly respect is #47.
