As reported on CBS News.

"In the southern Sierra, the California Highway Patrol issued a chain warning for Highway 168 above Shaver Lake. Yosemite National Park was expecting about 8 inches of snow above 6,000 feet. Tioga Pass and Glacier Point Road were closed at 10 p.m. Sunday, but officials there will assess conditions on both as weather improves."

House heater maintenance, check; Easy chair, check; lap-robe, check; coffee supply, check; wine supply, check; winter clothes ready, check...

Oh yes, and, North Face dome tent, check; winter sleeping bag, check; Exped mat, check; skiis, check; snow-shoes, check; show-shovel, check; ... just in case I get the urge.

Highway and weather report: check. Anti-freeze: check. Ice scraper: check. Shovel: check. Chains: check.

My list seems less fun.

Bob, I went for the Neo-air winter version, as I like the summer one so much. My Exped Down Mat is definitely cozy and comfy, but only .3 less in R-value and infinitely more in weight savings... (wait, did *I* just say that???)

I may just take the slowshoes this weekend as I go hunting for my cave again. I love my skis too much to thrash them on all the rocks up there...

GF, bring yourself and that loveable ball of fur back over to the awesome and let's hit the high country. Didn't you say you wanted some experience on snow???

Cable-chains went into the TOF at the last storm, and will live in there until June (or July, if I'm REALLY lucky...)

May be getting snowshoes wet this weekend in Tahoe/Bridgeport...plan is to follow both the colors and the snow.

Me and the loveable ball of fur are in for the awesome, especially if there be marmot spotting. Will take a look at the calendar.

Report from the Huff.

"FRESNO, Calif. — A storm from the Gulf of Alaska stalled for a second day over Northern California, blanketing mountains with snow, spawning a tornado near the state capital and drenching fans and players at the deciding seventh game of the National League Championship Series."

Colors over Sonora Pass were da bomb, but might be a bit over after the storm.

Putting together my wish list for the winter. So much trouble to get into... wink

Is there anything doable for me and the pup on that list? Got a long weekend coming up (Veterans Day), would enjoy a roadtrip.
