Mt Whitney Zone Forums Gear Heads Recommended Boots for late June.

Good day to everyone newbie in the forum here got a question to those who knows Mount Whitney a lot. I am going on a backpacking trip in Mt. Whitney this late June for the first time and my first time in a snow hike if the weather permits. I want to ask your opinion regarding what boot to wear, I currently owned Merrell Sawtooth and Hi-tec Kamberg Mid boots. Are they good enough for backpacking trip this June or do I need to buy a new one? Are they good boot on a crampon because it will be my first time to use a crampons if in case. Thanks in advance and have a good day.

I think the trail will be nearly free of snow by mid June. Last year the switchbacks could be used starting late May. This year is similarly dry, if not drier.

So I wouldn't worry about crampons. Your normal hiking boots should be fine.

However, all of this counts on not much new snow coming in May, which is unlikely.
