Living in the land where the mosquito is often called the state bird, and mosquitoes come out even before the snow is gone: my question is not how to prevent bites--we've got good spray and cream and so forth. But bites are simply unavoidable. I literally think the mosquitoes are camped out on my porch. I'll try and get a picture if I am brave enough. But I open the front door and the mosquitoes are hanging out on the porch walls waiting.

The question is how to relieve the itch after a bite. Home remedies? Creams? Biting the bite? Etc. Looking for everyone's best ideas.

Number One rule I tell my family members: Don't scratch a mosquito bite. It makes it swell up and itch worse!

Benadryl Anti-itch cream (if you have a Walgreens, the Wal-dryl is absolutely theee best)

I know that the Waldryl has an actual topical pain-killer that doubles as an itch reliever so it works both with bites and stings and any rash you can think of (itch & pain travel on the same wavelength)

Yep I tell my boys that. And I tell myself that. And then we all scratch away. Poor kids have about 10 bites on one arm and scratches it almost raw.

I like caladryl. Stops itching pretty fast. Over the counter lotion.

We use "AfterBite" the "The Itch Eraser". It comes in a small, easily packable, tube, with a wet-tip applicator. And...it really works. The active ingredient is ammonia, in a non-medicinal oil base.

BTW, the mozzies are out in the Eastern Sierra, but not as bad as some years. There isn't as much standing water, because of the very low snow pack this year.

Be careful using Tea tree oil on damaged or broken (scratched) skin, as it can burn/damage the skin further.
