Hello,
I was wondering if anybody knew what the conditions were like on the West side, on the approach from Crabtree Meadow?
I have my backpacking trip planned for the middle of July, being my first trip up Mt. Whitney I thought I would ask.
Also, I was thinking after our accent we may want to shorten our millage on that day and set up camp on the East before we head down to the portal. Any recommendation for a good camp site on the East side?
Thank you

You have two camping options on the East side, Trail Camp @ 12,000' (the first campsite East of Trail Crest @ 13,700'), and Outpost Camp @ 10,400'.

As for the conditions from Crabtree, someone will need to chime in on that one.

How'd you know I was looking at you if you weren't looking at me?

In mid-July, you can count on the conditions being completely normal on the JMT. If coming from the north, you have a water crossing at Wallace Creek, where lots of people camp, but the water will be low, so no issues to cross the creek.

There are camping areas near Crabtree, as well as Guitar Lake, and a few other options along the way.
