Well, My 2nd Mt. Whitney Summit bid is less than 2 weeks away (July 14th-15 if anyone is going to be in the area look for me with my REI Flash green backpack and grey Baseball cap) and with the weekend approaching I need one last training hike.

last year we did White Mt. and it was great, just long and boring. So this year we are hoping to maybe switch it up.

New Army pass was an option but I wanted to get some opinions.

Thanks

Mt. Agassiz. Beautiful lakes the whole way. I believe it's 5-6 miles one way so it won't be too long and a great view from the summit. Picture I took last year:

New Army Pass, and head all the way to Mt Langley! It's a long day hike, but will certainly put you in shape for a Whitney hike.

If you do that , try John Simms' (old) Army Pass - New Army Pass variation.

I agree with Steve on Army Pass. However, according to a friend their is still some snow around near the top.

If Mt. Langley is not in the cards from the top of New Army Psss, walk around the cirque to Cirque Peak then angle off the peak to the PCT and loop out over either Cottonwood or Trail Passes...visiting Trail Peak, if you go over the latter pass.

I am partial to the Trail Peak/Trail Pass variant.

Just got back into lone pine and had a great lunch at the Mt. Whitney restaurant.

Ended up going to cottonwood lakes and just overnighted about a mile down from the lakes. Trip report coming soon!!!

Don't forget to include pictures (if you took any) I am only recently learning about this area.

The body betrays and the weather conspires, hopefully, not on the same day.
