If you are hiking, but not doing one of the east face routes, the Tom Harrison maps are very good - and waterproof.

For climbing route topos, Summitpost.com is a good source:

If you want the very latest beta on climbing Whitney, visit Wilson's Eastside Sports in Bishop, Ca. They often have topograph maps of new climbing routes all over the Eastern Sierra, including unpublished topos.

For trail use, anything will work. For anything more, the Mt. Langley and Mt. Whitney 7.5' USGS quads are best...1:24000 format.

Thanks for the info. This will be my first time hiking/camping in California, looking forward to it. We drew a permit for the MR route and for the Cables on Half Dome. Should be a monster week!

bearhamer: Make SURE you study the Mountaineers Route information: maps, pictures and descriptions.

Contrary to what the Recreation.gov site reads, it IS NOT a trail!!! If you study up on the details, you will be able to make it, but it ain't like following a trail.
