Here's a new twist! I kind of like it.

Thank you, Steve, for the peaceful clip; it is a gift. Sometimes we forget the peace and tranquility we need, in our haste to set speed hiking or multi-summit records. Mother Nature will shut us out if we enter her domain with a restless heart.

The native flute, an ancient instrument, has been part of the spiritual way of thousands of years of American Indian wisdom. Even the process of building these beautiful instruments can be a spiritual experience, as I have discovered while working on them, as well as playing them.

A little off the topic, but my native brothers and sisters are proud to call themselves "American Indians." We like to say that a person calls us "Native Americans" if they have been to college...LOL. A master of the flute, Carlos Nakai, has been quoted as saying that anyone born in this country is a Native American!

Walk in peace, aho!

We were camping several years ago, and at around 7:30pm, Rich takes out the flute (Chiricahua Apache)and some idiot two camps over yells "Keep that noise down -- I have an Alpine Start to catch!" Of course, my camping experience had been exclusively Az, so I had no idea what an Alpine Start was.

The body betrays and the weather conspires, hopefully, not on the same day.

Ear plugs are useful for light sleepers. Then you aren't disturbed by flute music, bears, and early rising, noisy "alpine start" climbers. Old Injun saying: "Grumpy young men become grumpy old men."

Your experience is not unusual. Earlier this week I encountered a backpacker who complained to me about noisy children camped near his campsite. He should have moved away, but chose to be angry instead.
