Not a book, but this TED talk's conclusion is totally counterintuitive.

Well, back to pulp fiction:

I frequent a used bookstore where I can buy books for 15 cents or so each. So I can cheaply experiment with new (to me) authors...

Basically, if a book's cover states "NY Times Bestselling Author" - I'll give it a burl.

I'm a dedicated insomniac, I need a few books a week just to maintain an even strain.

In the last month I've read Anita Shreve's "Pilots Wife" and "Fortune's Rocks".

Not literature for the ages, but interesting stories, well told.

Gary, I think Bri might enjoy these.

Thanks wagga - I'll check these out for her. Since I got back from DV I've read Doctorow's Ragtime and am just finishing up Bellow's Henderson the Rain King. Both were enjoyable. I think I'll go the fun route next with Chabon's Kavalier & Clay - I read The Yiddish Policeman's Union a couple of years back and liked it.

Still waiting on the next volume of Martin's Ice and Fire saga to be published. May be a(nother) long wait.

Outside my normal tastes, but I found Paul Theroux's The Happy Isles of Oceania to be a fascinating read.
