big enough so the bear can't get its jaw around it. Pretty much a licensed can will be big enough for that.

The Inyo NF standard is something manufactured to prevent a bear from getting food. This is a signed forest order dated April of this year and is available on their website.

I'm too stinking lazy to provide the link.

not knowing where you read it makes it difficult to know if it is true or not.

one of the approved bear cans has been defeated by an east coast bear and campers are warned if they venture into this area to be aware of this.

inyo nat'l forest "traveling in bear country"

the link to sierrawild.gov will tell you all about bears and how to avoid feeding them.

This rule has been in effect for more than 5 years. Since the forest orders have been taken off line for some reason and I failed to download it way back when, all I can tell you is to look up my post history this year. I have quoted that order verbatim. While you are researching, maybe you can find the what canisters are approved in the Inyo National Forest. The last time I looked, they suggested you go to a website for that information and that website referred you back to Inyo for the list.

All bear resistant products have been defeated...that is why they are called bear resistant, not bear proof. Most of these defeats are caused by the user mistakes.
