Hi all

I'm new to the forum, and from overseas hence what is probably a dumb question...

I went onto the site to confirm a reservation. We're doing Mountaineers Route. The form asks whether Travel method is Foot or Mountaineering. What's the expected answer - Foot?

Location is I believe Other, not Whitney Trail? That's what the form was defaulted to and what I put on the original application.

The Group size is defaulted to 2 which is what I asked for. I guess I shouldn't try to increase it... (I don't need to)

Grateful for any help, thanks.

Hi Rob,

Since you are doing the Mountaineers Route, and that you entered the lottery, that you have a "day use Whitney Zone" permit -- because if you were doing an overnight in that area, the permits are outside the lottery (6 slots available 6 months in advance, 4 slots available via walk-in the day before)

Unless you are climbing one of the walls of Whitney, then "foot" is the correct answer.

When are you climbing Whitney?

Thanks Steve

30 June is our date. How reliable is the weather likely to be at that time?

Late June is the best time for clear weather. But you never know. A pattern of afternoon thunderstorms can occur any time in the summer. You will need to watch the weather forecast just prior to your hiking, and then decide what gear you should take or leave behind.

Please note the Mt Whitney Weather link in the feature topics box, above, left. It has the best weather prediction sites we can find.
