I have been working on writing/posting some old trip reports on my new website, trying to hit some of my most memorable trips first.

Mt. Washington (NH) via Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail || Distance: 9 miles RT || Duration: 5 hrs 45 min || Elevation Change: ±3800 ft || Difficulty: Very Strenuous

Notes:
Trail Head to Gem Pool = 1,000 ft over 2.1 miles = 9% incline
Gem Pool to AMC Hut = 1500 ft over 1 mile = 28% incline
AMC Hut to Summit = 1300 ft over 1.4 miles = 17.5% incline

This was one of my toughest hikes last year, despite it's short distance. For further details, click on one of the images below.

Thanks for your pictures and trip report - I never expected to see such familar (to me) shots on a Whitney BB!

And you're right - Ammo is much better suited to ascent than descent. I have descended it a few times, mainly in winter, when the snows were favorable for glissading. Of course, as you near treeline on an ascent and find the conditions too sketchy you don't have a choice.

Thanks again.

No problem Kevin, I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I may send you a message or two in the future with some questions about White Mtn Hikes. My father-in-law is training for our Whitney attempt in June.

My in-laws live in Gratham and my parents live in Claremont. I still have brothers and sisters that live in the Lebanon and Manchester areas. We will most likely be moving back east within the next 18 months, possibly Southern NH.

Please feel free to. I noticed you now live in Colton - many years ago I was stationed at Norton (now closed) and lived in Colton before buying a place on the northern edge of SB. My son was born at Loma Linda.

Am headed west in June with a friend for my annual Sierra/Cascades trek. The plan is to do Telescope as an acclimatization hike, then Whitney, Boundary (he's a High Pointer), and possibly Langley before heading north for Shasta and Mt St Helens. There's also been some loose talk about Baker, but it may be a bit early in the season for that one. I also like Lassen (it's alot of bang for the buck) if we get delayed around Shasta.

Used to live in Colton (Reche Canyon). Best thing was that several miles south over the pass got you to Riverside International Raceway (RIR) back door where you could be very close to Donahue's flame-belching flat 16 cylinder 1200 horsepower abomination Porche Can-Am race car. Detuned. OMG.

Wow, small world LOL.

My wife works at Loma Linda and our son was born there. One of my good friends lives off Reche Canyon (Colton address) and Blue Mtn, the big hill between Colton and Grand Terrace is where we do all of my weekday training, or when I cant get away for a 'real' hike.

I took some nice photos (IMO, lol), up there the last couple of trips:
Blue Mtn, April 05

Blue Mtn, March 22

KevinR - sounds like a fun trip! I need to make it up to Lassen before we move!

Wagga - if you like crazy cars, here's a video I shot for a good friend of mine. He supervised most of the modifications (ie made sure I didn't do anything stupid) I made on my 63 Nova.

He's #3 on this list:
