On 5/17, I lost a black Cannon camera and an orange SPOT device between Upper Boyscout Lake and Iceberg lake. The last SPOT registered location is Latitude: 36.57832 and Longitude: -118.28149. I believe that is where it fell off my pack :-( If anyone is planning a trip up there and sees the items , pls let me know ....

Hope you find it. Here's a Gmap4 map of the location. Cross hairs are on your coordinates.

Hi Dagmar, loosing the pictures is the worse part. I'm going up the MR on 5/31. I will keep an eye out for your items at the coordinates provided.

Dagmar,

I guess you inadvertently moved the map (map is "live" and can be moved and zoomed in/out). As I look at it the cross hairs are (sort of) between Iceberg lake, and Upper Boy Scout Lake. Actually, south east of Ice Berg Lake. Consultation Lake is not in the view at all. The noted location is along the "normal" path to Iceberg Lake, and matches your Lat/Lon coordinates (see lower right of map frame). The "cross hairs" are small, and located in the center of the frame.

John

Hi Dagmar,

John S is correct. I used your exact coordinates to create that map location. Here's a link if you want, to a full-window version of the map, so you can see the surrounding terrain:   Gmap4 map

As John wrote, if you click and move the map, the cross hair center remains at the center of the window, so it's location effectively moves. You have to click your browser's reload button to re-center the map at your location.

Edit: I looked up the Gmap4 help, and found how to put a symbol pointer on your spot, that will remain as you move the map around. Everyone, please donate to Gmap4. Joseph is continually upgrading his mapping site.

Hi Dagmar, I'm leaving to go to Whitney this weekend and will be near the last know SPOT location on Monday. Did you climb up the cliff below Iceberg Lake or the switchbacks further up? Basically trying to find out if you stayed mainly on the rough use trail. Any further info would be helpful in the search for your items.

My son and I tried unsuccessfully to look for your items, both on the way up and way down from the summit. I brought a copy of the map posted and the coordinates. My GPS had completely different coordinates than they ones you have. Around that area my GPS was like; lat 36.26 and long 118.15. Not sure if my gps was having an issue. Hopefully someday they will be found.

Hi Dagmar,

One thing I am curious about: Normally the batteries in your SPOT will last many days, and continue to post the location of the device. Did the SPOT continue to indicate it's location with the same position reported several times, or stop reporting altogether? I'm not familiar with the operation of the SPOT, so perhaps it only reports when some preset distance is covered. Otherwise I would expect it to continue to post location information every xx minutes (based on your settings). If this is the case I think it indicates someone found your SPOT and turned it off?

Anyway, just curious.

The SPOT stopped transmitting long time ago. I assumed it sung out of batteries or is broken now.

Thank you so much . I have already mentally parted with my items. Time to move on smile
