Am I the only who hasn't received a letter with my climb date even though my card was charged on April 2nd!? When I called the office I was told to call back when they have their records organized near the end of the week (April 23)! frown

epeon,
At least you know you have a spot since they charged your card. That is GREAT NEWS congratulations. Since I have been rejected every year since 07 I am just going to do a walk up whenever I find the time to get away for a few days.

Rod,

You are a Whitney veteran, you should know that walking up is the only way to fly.

The only permits I have reserved in the last 5 years have involved Trail Crest permits...and then because I was out voted by my group of loons.

My last MMWT walk-in permit was 7/08. Walked in on a Friday morning and was on the trail by 10 AM.

Damn, the Whitney Zone thingy is fifteen stinking dollars.

Call? The damn call cost fifteen stinking dollars a pop.

Now, I can understand the those flying in with rentals purchasing the insurance policy but SoCals, no way. What is the worst thing that can happen? You get to see another an area of the Sierra you've never seen before...a heck of a consolation prize. Hmmmm...actually it can be the Grand Prize...this I know from experience.

Yeah I am slowly getting smarter as I go.The $15 was worth it on my 1st summit in 07. That was a special quest for me and I was bound and determined to get to the top of MW by any means. The phone call assured me of a permit for which I would have paid almost anything for.Now I am only going by the walk up method to obtain a permit.
