Hi Folks -
I've got 6 day-use permits for a summit attempt via the Whitney Portal. Chances are good that not all members of the group will want to leave at the same time in the morning. These same members will not likely attempt the summit, but will instead want to hike to a comfortable stopping point and head back to camp.
My question is -
Are the permits doled out as individual licenses to be carried by the individual users, or does the group leader carry a "master" permit covering up to the number of users defined on the permit?
Thanks!

I believe the permit is a single page. In the past, each hiker got a hang-tag for their day pack, but not in the past couple of years.

Just take along a note pad, and write your name and the permit number on a paper for each hiker to carry. Groups are not required or expected to all hike together.

The permit is a single page right now, but they are planning on bringing back the hang tags this year.

Thanks! That is a big relief.
