Climbing on June 27th. I know the weather can drastically change in 2 weeks and I cannot have an accurate answer but I just wanted to see if anyone had a clue if I would need an ice axe going up? Are the cables open or will I be going up the chute?

(I should mention that I do know how to use the axe and have experience with them but do I really need to hall it onto the plane with me)

How has the snow been in higher elevations?

Thanks guys.

I read a report of someone trailwalking the entire length of the MMWT today. They stated thought about using microspikes just below Trail Camp and between Trail Crest and Lower Trail Crest.

Conditions will only improve between now and end of June.

KevinR hiked the switchbacks Tuesday. He said the snow is melting fast, but the trail is still snow-covered in spots. The chute has melted to he point where it would be risky to glissade.

He's on his way to Shasta now, but I'm guesiing he'll post a trip a report when he has time.
