Mt Whitney Zone Forums General Discussion Overnight permits sought July 14-26

I saw a post about giving up some permits, so I thought I'd ask if anyone else is in a position of having friends bail out. We are a party of 4 with a fairly flexible schedule looking for overnight permits. Ideal dates are 7/21 or 7/22 start, but we can flex.

Current plan is to show up and hope for a walk-in. But, if something works out... hooray.

July 21/22 are great dates to get walk-ins, since they are Monday/Tuesday. So just go and plan on getting the walk-ins.

As far as joining a group, it gets a bit tricky, as you would be expected to camp together, and that's likely when the ranger would be checking.

BRH, in the three weeks before your trip, check online several times a day for cancellations. A few good people will release their permits there, and so you might be able to pick up reservations that way. Looking online just now, there are 4 and 2 available in the next 2 weeks window.

Thank you so much! I'm really glad to hear that your experience suggests our dates are fairly reliable to walk in - I feel like I'm tightroping without a net a bit there, but out plan is that if we do get foiled, we will hike something else beautiful nearby.
