Just wanted to post that my wife and i will be taking our first trip up to whitney starting tomorrow! We plan to camp at horseshoe meadows tonight, get our permit in the morning and go in! Excited to meet some hikers and have a good few days on the mountain. We'll be the two people probably looking a bit lost with big smiles on our faces! Been on this forum for years, and wanted to give a big thanks to all those who gave advice and answered all my questions. Heres to a summit! (Or not, its all groovy!) smile

Also! Any last minute words of wisdom from anyone?

Have fun. Be safe. Bring rain gear. Avoid high places when weather is building. I think there are high places on Whitney (doh!).

Good luck!

My only advice is to go after it with the main goal of having fun and enjoying yourself. I found out the hard way that by making summiting your main goal, you set yourself up to make bad decisions.

Enjoy it, there's a ton of good people on the trail, and it's a ruggedly beautiful place to hike.

One day I'd like to hike the entire John Muir Trail and not leave a single footprint. -Randy Morgenson
