yeah, over there.

the incorrect answer is: because every time she got hot, he'd beat her with a shovel.

heresay, no evidence this ever occurred, nor was there ever any mention of a mrs. smokey bear.
he was a dedicated bachelor who dedicated his whole life to we all know what. grin

correct - JMT/Sawmill junction. Many people, not just Mousie use that spot for a break. The marker is on a stone bench right next to the trail.

RE: GROVER

BEE,
Grover is really cute. I see lots of snow around Grover on top of Half Dome. Did Grover have to climb over snow going up the cables? Oh my, he could have slipped especially if there was ice too.

Lynn-a-roo,
Don't you know that Grover is Super and he can fly like Chick-on?

But here is your answer from Grover's owner:
http://yosemitenews.info/forum/read.php?3,25438,25986#msg-25986

The short answer is that there was snow on the subdome,
but definitely no snow on the cable route. If there was
snow ON the cable route you might well not even be able
to lift the cable and a big ol slab might come crashing down
at any moment...

(we asked Jon if we could post his Grova photo in case there
is any question)

Have fun

Taz thinks that Mousie is gonna do the High Sierra Route! (even if I am wrong, I really like this kind of quiz with the old fashioned relief map)

good guess - High route is part of what he is looking at. Mt. Dana for starters as a warmup, and then a custom route from Bishop to Whitney: starting via Lamarck Col to Muir Pass, then over to Dusy Basin on the High Route to Potluck Pass and down to Palisade Lakes, JMT all the way past Glen Pass, then over to Center Basin and Junction Pass, Shepherd Pass, back to JMT at Tyndall Creek and out via JMT and Whitney Main Trail. That's his idea of a small summer trip. Throw in some mountain biking at Mammoth and on White Mountain and he may just have the proper package to interest the kids to take him again.

Sounds like a great trip! Can you do one of those Topo maps with the route drawn out, so that I can see the whole trip (or maybe Steve C can make one?) How long are you budgeting for this trek?

ok, Google Maps lets you sketch lines - nothing accurate, but I made this map with all the possible off-trail adventures. Two sections in the southern part are optional (the approach and exit from Onion Valley), and I'm still looking for some beta on the variant south of Sawmill Pass.

Mousie got himself a girl friend... her name is Mini. He's been busy trying to convince her that she really wants to hit the Sierra on his fancy off trail route later this summer.

Meanwhile Mini is trying to convince Mousie to wear some sun screen on that nose before it loses all its color (although I think she digs his rough weather beaten appearance)

still flexible, but I doubt we'll begin before July 28 with the actual route, pending Whitney exit permit and other stuff we may do prior to the hike like ride to White Mountain on bicycles. Still need to figure out where to store three mountain bikes during our hike, etc.

Mousie looks very happy with his new girlfriend! Chick-on actually wears a helmet for some of the hikes (perhaps Bill-e-g is a bit rough on him?)

Just found out that Chicky Boy has been a busy bird; he just came back from yosemite (Mt Starr King in the background)

Some more up to date snow and not so snowy pics here
