I just bought a new pair of Salomon trail runners today, and along with them a new pair of green Superfeet. My old Salomon trail runners are just over a year old, but they, along with the old Superfeet, have seen a lot of action in that span. Seeing as these insoles are so expensive, I wondered if I should have just saved myself the $ and reused the old ones. But I didn't know if Superfeet also have a certain period of use before they are no longer worth having.

I am happy to be the tester, as it were, but I guess I was wondering if the SF lost their effectiveness after a period of time. Kind like the cushioning in certain running shoes tend to do.

I replaced mine this past summer after about 8 years of hiking.

It depends on how much not how long.

Depends on factors like mileage, your body weight, etc. If you hike several times a week, then an annual replacement might be in order. I change mine every year. Talk to a sales person you trust and ask their advice.

What stores have told me is to push down on the arch section of the Superfeet and if they give easily they probably need to be replaced. A hiking or running shop could give you more specific information. If you do a lot of hiking or running, an annual replacement is probably a good idea.

Thanks. I do an 8 mile hike about 3 times a week in my trail runners, plus I wore them on Baldy 3 times last year, once from Horseshoe to Cottonwood, and once on San Jacinto. I'd say that's a fair bit of hiking so maybe it doesn't hurt to switch them up when I buy new shoes. I did pretty much wear out the shoes, so...
