Anyone have any experience with sleeping bags with no back. They have a full/partial sleeve for a sleeping pad. I'm uncomfortable in my mummy bag and have been shopping for other options. I had considered getting a Sierra Designs Backcountry Bed 800 but it's a little pricey. The new Outside magazine's Gear Issue recommends the Nemo Tango Solo 30 as "Gear Of The Year". It lists for $300 but I've found it online for $225 with free shipping. I do have an insulated air pad and am wondering if the lack of down on the bottom side affects the warmth while sleeping.

Well, I've been told that compressed down does nothing in terms of insulation. That's why they didn't insulate the bottom of the backcountry bed and why some people prefer down quilts.

I found the backcountry bed used. I had been planning on buying a quilt, but the deal was too good to pass up.

my daughter had a Big Agnes bag that worked that way, with matching ground pad. Not happy with it. could not use it as a blanket when warmer at night, as the thing was only half filled. All depends on sleeping habits, but for me, a sleeping bag gets used opened up on a pad 90% of the time, so it really needs down in the bottom as well.
