For those wishing to climb White Mountain Peak (14,242'), the White Mountain Research Center will open the locked gate to the Barcroft Station (12,500') on Sunday, July 26th and Sunday, September 6th.
The gate will open at approximately 6:30 AM and close about 7:30 PM. Hikers will be allowed to park at the Barcroft Station and hike from there to the summit of White Mountain Peak. Portable toilets will be available outside the station for public use. The Barcroft Station will NOT be opened to the public on these days. DO NOT DISTURB the staff or researchers at the station and please follow any parking restrictions.
Four-wheel drive vehicles are advised.
If you question your reaction to high-altitude environments, please consult your physician before attempting to drive to the Barcroft Station to climb White Mountain Peak. The total hiking distance round trip is approximately 10 miles at high altitude.
Be prepared for high altitude weather conditions, which can change without warning, and bring plenty of water (none available at the station), food, and proper clothing.
The trail from the station to the summit is essentially a dirt road, but bicycles and motor vehicles are not allowed.
Camping at the station is not allowed, but you MIGHT be able to camp just downhill from the gate.
