Anyone ever do White Mountain in late October? Is the road even open, or does it close at first snow?

That seems like a very late date, but if there is no snow by then, the road may be open.

Call the ranger station in Bishop and ask: (760) 873-2500

Don't get yourself caught up there. A few years back, a friend and I snowmobiled the road and found a car that got snowed in. I think it had to be removed the following summer once they re-opened the road.

October is an iffy month. You have to be sure the weather is good. I have been up to the Patriarch Grove in October but I have not hiked the road in this month.

As of today, there is still a lot of snow at higher elevations in the White Mtns, covering much of the access road.

You should call ranger station at 760-873-2501 to find out if the road is open. (The local ranger station doesn't seem to update their website very often.)
