10 out of 15 California 14'ers down!

A few of you follow me on FB/Insta and have seen my posts regarding my recent climb on Shasta. A great trip, with a couple snafus in the end.

Regardless, makes a good story. Follow the link below to the full trip report + links to another site that has photos of the Avalanche gulch route.

It can make a good discussion of glissading (RE the struggles Whitney climbers face in the Chute), and the importance of being prepared!

Read the report here, and follow the link.

My goodness, Dude!!!

Next time you climb a mountain with SO many other climbers, ask everyone you meet if they have a spare pair of sunglasses!!! I'd bet if you asked ten people, you would come up with something. I once got a bad welder's burn -- electric spark flash. I know how it hurts, and my symptoms weren't nearly as bad as yours!

And everyone carries their sunscreen -- you could have borrowed some of that at least!

Most hikers would be willing to loan you things. I once ruined my lighter and foolishly had not packed spare matches. Next person I encountered gave me her lighter! On half dome, my niece was getting some bad blisters, and someone gave her an extra pair of socks.

Good point.

I did ask a few people for spare glasses. No go. One guy even stopped me to inquire why I wasn't wearing glasses. He didn't have any spares either.

I also note that I pulled my bandanna low, and my wind mask high. I thought that this should cover my face enough.

I removed my bandanna and mask combo at the start of my glissade. The one wisecrack who commented on my face did so about 30 minutes from the car, so I didn't even bother to ask for sunscreen.

I SHOULD have asked for sunscreen though, for sure.

Epic tale, buddy! Great read. I always put sunscreen on in the dark before starting, and always make sure I have my glasses in my shoulder strap pocket. Did you see many skiers/boarders?
