The Forest Service is revising its Forest Plans (long, boring story…) and the Sierras are one of the early regions that will be updated and changed. This includes the region home to Mt. Whitney.

These revisions are a big deal, since the plans are only updated once every 30 years or so and then whatever is set as the rules sticks for another generation.

Since a lot happens on National Forests (motorized use, logging, agriculture, etc.), it's really important that people who like to hike tell the Forest Service what we do outside and where, and that it MATTERS, since it helps balance out the loud voices of extractive industries. Plus it will make a difference for the USFS prioritizing recreation, from trailheads to bathrooms to parking to not logging, for the next 30 years.
