Mt Whitney Zone Forums General Discussion Walk-In Permit Waiting Time

Hello,

I am trying my luck next weekend trying to snag overnight Mt.Whitney permits. I plan on entering Fri, Oct 7 and exiting Sun, Oct 9. I also plan on getting to the ranger station on Thurs, Oct 6. I realize the ranger station releases next day permits at 11 AM. Would I need to be at the ranger station at 8 AM or can I show up a little before 11 AM (on Oct 6)?

At 11, they have a drawing for everyone there hoping for a permit. Those drawing the lowest numbers get first crack at asking for any available permits.

So you only need to be there a few minutes before 11.
