Mt Whitney Zone Forums General Discussion Inquiry: Mountaineer's Route to Lower Boy Scout Lake

Hi, everyone.

I'll be in Lone Pine this weekend and am wondering if anyone knows what the snow/ice conditions are like on the Mountaineer's Route up to Lower Boy Scout Lake. (I am going no farther.) Any specifics about the Ebersbacher Ledges?

If anyone has current info about this, that would be most helpful.

Also, is the road up to the Portal still open? No snow yet?

I understand that the situation can change VERY quickly in the mountains, and that a "current" report may not be current the moment I start up the trail. BTW, I *will* be prepared for very cold weather. (I've been up the MR several times.)

There is a cold wind disturbance moving through tonight, but the NOAA weather report for that area and elevation is for partly cloudy to sunny, high above 40.

The route should be mostly clear up to Lower B.S. Lake since there hasn't been much snow that low so far.

The road to the Portal is currently open.

Knowing that the route up to Lower Boy Scout Lake is clear, and that the road to the Portal is open, is very helpful. As I noted in my question, things can change quickly up in "thar hills," but I'm going to head up to Lone Pine from L.A. this Saturday.
